Director of Swiss Cooperation Office Serbia visited EHO
On Wednesday 16 November 2016 the study visit to EHO was made by Ursula Laubli, Director of Swiss Cooperation Office Serbia and Jovana Mihajlović, national program coordinator for management of migration.
EHO has successful cooperation with the Swiss Cooperation Office Serbia / Swiss Development Cooperation since 2008. Currently ongoing is realization of three-year project (2016 – 2018) ”Improvement of living conditions of Roma and of other marginalized groups, prevention of illegal migrations and supporting reintegration of returnees to Serbia” also financed by the Swiss Development Cooperation.
Within the study visit, EHO introduced guests with its history in work with the Roma national community in Serbia. A special accent was given to presentation of the project ”Improvement of living conditions of Roma and of other marginalized groups, prevention of illegal migrations and supporting reintegration of returnees to Serbia”, and on presentation of participative working methodology in housing improvement of substandard Roma settlements – author model „Dweller Driven Roma Settlemen Upgrading Model”. Also, presented were educational and migration management activities, which were followed by discussion.
After this, organized were field home visits to beneficiary families in two Roma settlements in Novi Sad - Adice and Veliki rit.
In Adice visited were two beneficiary families. With help of EHO projects these families improved their housing – constructed bathroom and adapted other rooms in their houses. The following visit was made in Veliki rit. This beneficiary family was returned upon Readmission agreement from Stuttgart / Germany in November 2015. EHO provided necessary personal documentation for entire family, supported enrollment of children in schools and provided a start-up grant for self-employment.
New Director of Swiss Cooperation Office Serbia Ursula Laubli was thereby made aware of EHO project activities and working methodology. Also, guests established direct communication with beneficiary families to learn firsthand about personal (re)integration experiences and impact of such projects.
Guest gave a high appraisal of EHO work and efforts made by our organization in process of social inclusion and migrations.
The project “Improvement of living conditions of Roma and of other marginalized groups, prevention of illegal migrations and supporting reintegration of returnees to Serbia” is financed by the SEM - State Secretariat for Migration, Switzerland, SDC - Swiss agency for development and cooperation, Switzerland, HEKS-EPER – Switzerland including local self-government units in Serbia and realized by the consortium EHO – HEKS/EPER.
