On Monday 07 April 2014 a conference was held in Belgrade on the occasion of International Day of the Roma, organized by Serbian governmental Office for Human and Minority Rights, technically supported by OSCE Mission in Serbia. At the conference, EHO deputy director and Program Coordinator of the EHO Roma Resource Center, Robert Bu, presented a Good Practice Example – Housing conditions for Roma. The presentation included basic information on the copyrighted model of work „Needs-Based Improvement of Roma Settlements” successfully implemented by EHO in Serbia since 2007.
A roundtable about working with returnees on the basis of readmission agreements was held on Friday, 21st March in the building of the Municipality of Zrenjanin. The debate was attended by representatives of relevant local institutions. This was the 2nd roundtable in the series of debates to be held in Vojvodina municipalities, as part of the project 'Improvement of local services for Roma returnees' supported by Office of Human and Minority Rights of the Republic of Serbia.
Romski resursni centar Ekumenske humanitarne organizacije (EHO RRC) iz Novog Sada u saradnji sa Asocijacijom romskih nastavnika Vojvodine, obeležava Svetski dan Roma centralnom manifestacijom pod nazivom: “Smotra recitatora na romskom jeziku”, koja ima za cilj negovanje i očuvanje identiteta Roma kroz maternji jezik. Ovo je druga smotra po redu i održaće se u subotu 5. aprila 2014. godine, s početkom u 12.00 sati u OŠ ”Dositej Obradović” u Novom Sadu.
Tim povodom EHO RRC i ARNV pozivaju sve škole koje neguju romski jezik sa elementima nacionalne kulture, da prijave učešće svojih učenika. Takmičenje će se održati u dve kategorije za niže i više razrede osnovnoškolskog uzrasta. Za svaku od kategorija, škola može prijaviti po jednog učenika.
U utorak 25. februara u zgradi Skupštine opštine Beočin održan je okrugli sto koji je okupio predstavnike lokalnih institucija i udruženja građana. Ovaj okrugli sto prvi je u nizu javnih debata koje će biti održane u vojvođanskim opštinama, a kao deo projekta "Unapređenje lokalnih usluga za Rome povratnike" koji podržava Kancelarija za ljudska i manjinska prava Vlade Republike Srbije. Na okruglom stolu su davani predlozi za unapređenje postojećih lokalnih resursa i usluga koje su na raspolaganju povratnicima po osnovu sporazuma o readmisiji...
In the period from 30 March to 03 Aprila 2014 Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization (EHO) was visited by representatives of partner organization Diakonie Württemberg and three journalists from Germany.

Zero projects’ selection committee of renowned disability and accessibility experts proudly certified that “e-Accessible Education”, joint project of Open the Windows (Macedonia) and Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization (Serbia) was selected as one of 54 Innovative Practices for 2014. Project is an exemplary in the areas of innovation, impact, chances of long-term growth and success, and scalability. Also, it is outstanding in providing a practical solution to improve accessibility for persons with disability. Representatives of OtW and EHO had an opportunity to present joint project at Plenary session: Benefits and challenges of Public-Private Partnerships: Lessons learned from the field.
„Svratište za decu ulice“ Ekumenske humanitarne organizacije je obeležilo proslave četiri godine svog postojanja. Korisnici usluga i zaposleni Svratišta su pripremili priredbu i predstavili izložbu fotografija na kojoj su prikazane protekle četiri godine njihovog rada i saradnje sa relevantnim institucijama Grada. Tom prilikom je i Gradonačelnik Novog Sada Miloš Vučević posetio Svratište....
In the period 25-26 March Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization (EHO) was visited by representatives of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America – ELCA.
During the visit, guests were acquainted with the work of EHO. Representatives of ELCA presented the program for Europe and initiated were consultations about eventual future cooperation between EHO and ELCA. Also, the guests visited EHO projects Diaconal Center, Shelter for Street Children and Roma Resource Center. Organized was also a visit to Slovak Evangelical A.C. Church in Bački Petrovac.
A further development of EHO-ELCA cooperation is expected.
"EHO's Dweller Driven Upgrading of Roma Settlement Model (developed in partnership with Swiss partners HEKS-EPER and SKAT) appears to be one of the most promising initiatives in the field of Roma housing upgrading in the region." This is a conclusion of the "OSCE/ODIHR Regional Report on Housing Legalization, Settlement Upgrading and Social Housing for Roma in the Western Balkans" pp 53-56.
Ecumenical Humanitarian Organisation with Swiss partners HEKS-EPER and SKAT, published Guide and Toolbox - Dweller Driven Upgrading of Roma settlements and the Construction Manual for Dwellers.
This is the first ever Guide and Toolbox and Construction Manual of its kind in the Republic of Serbia and in the region. Authors of the Guide and Toolbox are are Daniel Wyss, Skat Consulting Ltd, Switzerland and Robert Bu, EHO, Serbia. Author of the Construction Manual is Slađana Jovanović, EHO, Serbia.
