Overall goal
Its goal is to improve the quality of life and build capacities of the Roma and internally displaced people (IDPs) through meeting their educational, developmental and social needs, as well as to facilitate social integration of Roma and IDP children from Kosovo through promotion of values of tolerance and understanding.
Some of the 2004 results are the following:Settlement were organized 9 times with a total of 226 representatives of GOs, NGOs and inhabitants of the settlement. The name of the settlement was changed to the Sunny Settlement, and various city construction and planning companies took some steps towards the legalisation of the settlement, so its inhabitants could have a legal place of residence and their own address. The whole process and its results have been documented in the Forum: Perspectives of the Sunny Settlement, a document/study with all relevant information. Medical counselling was done 1,385 times in 3 Roma settlements around Novi Sad. During these visits EHO distributed 8,011 parcels of medicines, 371 family hygiene parcels for 62 families in the Sunny Settlement, as well as 130 m2 of firewood. Thanks to the Roma kindergarten operating in the Dositej Obradovic Primary School in Novi Sad, 7 children from the Sunny Settlement started school in 2004. They and other pupils from the settlement were provided with 50 sets of coursebooks and 1,200 pcs of necessary school supplies. For starting a cultural and education centre in the settlement 2 containers/mobile offices were provided. 11 people attended various vocational courses at the Open University in Novi Sad and 26 people contacted the legal counselling unit within the centre.
