Poetry and messages of hope help celebrate International Day of Literacy and the International Day of Peace in Bujanovac

25. Sep 2026.

On the occasion of marking two significant international dates - the International Day of Literacy and the International Day of Peace - the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization (EHO), supported by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Americ (ELCA), conducted a series of inspiring and creative workshops for users at the Bujanovac Reception Center.

Through the combination of the written word and artistic expression, our users had the opportunity to authentically express their thoughts, emotions and visions of a better and more peaceful world:

International Literacy Day: Participants wrote their favorite verses, poems and personal messages in their native languages (Farsi, Pashto) and English on templates in the form of open books. This activity aimed to promote literacy, preserve cultural identity and emphasize the importance of education and multilingualism.

International Day of Peace: Through the symbolism of envelopes and letters enriched with drawings of hearts, doves of peace and flags, users sent strong messages of empathy, solidarity and the desire to live in peace.

The main goals of these merged activities were to encourage a culture of dialogue, tolerance and mutual respect, as well as to provide a safe space for emotional empowerment and creative expression of users in PC Bujanovac.
