Support to Education of Socially Deprived Children in Serbia
The aim of this three-year project is to improve the chances and success in the education of socially deprived children and young people (children and young people from underprivileged families and those who belong to particularly vulnerable categories such as members of the Roma minority including children and/or young people with disabilities). The project is being implemented in nine local communities across Serbia: Bac (Selenca), Opovo, Krusevac (Gornji Stepoš), Kraljevo, Bor, Knjaževac, Mionica, Raška and Lebane (Bosniaks). Support is continuously provided for a total of 190 school children and young people in this context. The involved local education coordinators are responsible for: identification and selection of potential young beneficiaries, implementation of intended project support to children and young people and monitoring the degree of integration of identified children and young people into the school system and their success. Support includes the provision of textbooks and school materials, covering meals&travel costs for pupils/students, organizing additional classes and workshops, non-monetary rewards for the best students, motivating parents of children and covering registration costs for teachers in selected schools to attend accredited work-relevant training with socially deprived children and young people.
With this project, the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization aims to support the efforts of schools and local communities to bring about positive personal, social and economic change by investing in the education of poor children. The project is a continuation of the successfully implemented two-year project (from July 2017 to June 2019).
Implementation period: 1st July 2019 - 30th June 2022.
