Support to Education of Socially Deprived Children in Serbia
The aim of the three-year project is to improve the chances and success in education of socially deprived children and youth (children and youth from poor families and those belonging to particularly vulnerable categories such as members of the Roma minority or children and youth with disabilities and/or developmental disabilities). The project is implemented in 14 local communities across Serbia: Bač (Selenča), Mali Iđoš, Šid, Aleksinački Rudnik, Kraljevo, Trnava (Novi Pazar), Bor, Knjaževac, Stepojevac (Lazarevac), Lajkovac (Jabučje), Mionica, Vranje, Leskovac and Lebane (Bošnjace). Support is provided continuously to a total of 322 school children and youth in these communities. Local education coordinators are responsible for identifying and selecting children and youth who are beneficiaries of the project, implementing the support provided for children and youth by the project, and monitoring the level of integration of identified children and youth into the school system and their success. The support includes the purchase of textbooks and school materials, covering the costs of meals and travel expenses for students, organizing additional classes and workshops, non-cash prizes for the best students, motivating parents of children and covering the costs of registration fees for teachers in selected schools to attend accredited training courses relevant to working with socially deprived children and youth.
With this project, the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization wants to support the efforts of schools and local communities to achieve positive personal, social and economic changes by investing in the education of poor children. The project is a continuation of three successfully implemented project cycles (from July 2017 to June 2025).
Implementation period: 1st July 2025. – 30th June 2028.
