International Roma Day

08. Apr 2022.

On this day, we celebrate the International Roma Day in memory of the founding of the first major international Roma civic initiative, the International Roma Union in 1971.
For more than 40 years, the Roma have been dedicating this day to the celebration of Roma culture, language, heritage, collective experience and raising awareness of the problems that Roma continue to face.
Today, the Roma community, the largest ethnic minority in Europe, continues to face multiple discrimination and marginalization in Serbia and across Europe.
The majority of the Roma population continues to live in inhumane conditions, facing difficult living conditions and discrimination in access to social assistance, employment and adequate housing.
The Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization draws attention to the unacceptable gap between members of the Roma national minority and other citizens and emphasizes the necessary commitment to Roma inclusion, equality and non-discrimination.
It is necessary to do more, to achieve a society based on the principle of equal opportunities where everyone has the right to vote and that everyone's opinion is respected.
Congratulations to all Roma on International Roma Day with the desire to celebrate next year in much better circumstances and with a higher index of social inclusion.
