Janko Ramač, full-time professor at the University of Novi Sad, died on August 27 at the age of 67. He was born in Ruski Krstur in 1955, where he finished elementary school and high school. He completed four classes of the classical gymnasium in Rome. He graduated in history at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad, defended his master's thesis at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, and his doctorate at the State University in Uzhgorod, Ukraine. His main area of professional interest was the history of the Ruthenians in Southern Hungary/Yugoslavia. He also dealt with the cultural history and folklore of Ruthenians and Ukrainians, as well as the study of the Slovak past in Vojvodina and Slovak-Rusyn cultural, literary and educational contacts and connections. Since 2006, he has been a full-time professor at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Novi Sad. For the translation of the Bible - Old and New Testaments from the original Greek into Russian, he received the Order of the Knight of St. Pope Sylvester.
For many years, Professor Ramač was part of the management structures of the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization (EHO), and for a time he also held the position of president of the Board of Directors. We will remember him as a man who, with his calmness and dedication, helped our organization, guided by Christian ethical values, to contribute to the construction of a just society and respect for diversity.
Professor Ramač's words from the publication on the occasion of 25 years of work of EHO:
"During the great political and economic crisis in these areas in the early nineties of the last century, I worked a lot with Dr. Roman Miza, the Greek Catholic parish priest in Novi Sad. The doors of his apartment and parish house were wide open for believers, spiritual persons, and intellectuals. Then I got acquainted with his ecumenical work and many of his friends and collaborators with whom he tried to build bridges of rapprochement between Christian churches and their believers. At the suggestion and request of Roman Miz, he himself accepted to become a member of the EHO Board of Directors and only then did I truly get to know the activities of this organization and realized how much love, goodwill, selfless work for others, often those who are in trouble and need, can do with small steps. great works. That's why I'm grateful to Roman Miz and everyone with whom I've collaborated all these years to spread the spirit and work of ecumenism." (Dr. Janko Ramač)
