International Migrants Day is celebrated worldwide on December 18. On this occasion, this day was marked on Friday, December 16, 2022, in the reception centers in Šid and Sombor, through the EHO project "Empowerment of refugee women and children".

In the Reception Center Sombor, EHO, with the cooperation of the Center for Social Work Sombor, held the workshop "We Walk Together", with the support of volunteers from the Sombor Educational Center and in cooperation with the Commissariat for Refugees and Migrants and the IOM.

The topics of the workshop were: human rights, non-discrimination and solidarity. The workshop was carried out with the help of a translator, and Serbian, Arabic and English languages ​​were used. The goal of the activity is aimed at improving and developing intercultural communication between young people, given that the participants of the workshop were volunteers from the Sombor educational center and users of the Reception Center for migrants aged 18-30.

In the Reception Center Šid, EHO, in cooperation with the Slovak Evangelical Church from Šid and KIRS, organized a creative and artistic workshop in the premises of the Slovak People's House.

The workshop was attended by children staying in PC Šid, who come from Afghanistan, Syria and Russia, as well as children of primary school age from Šid. The leader of the workshop was professor of fine arts, Miljan Torma, and the topic of the workshop was "Abstract beings", realized in the form of interactive group work. In this way, the children got to know each other, exchanged ideas and developed their imagination. By holding this workshop, the development of tolerance was encouraged, language barriers, prejudices were overcome and new friendships were made.

The project "Empowerment of Refugee Women and Children" is implemented by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization with the support of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) .
