A meeting held with representatives of institutions in the domain of additional educational support for returnee children in the City of Novi Sad

On Monday, April 24, 2023, in the premises of the local community of Vidovdansko naselje, as part of the activities within the project "Additional educational support for returnee children", a meeting was held with representatives of institutions, namely representatives of: "Dušan Radović" Elementary School, "Vuk Karadžić" Elementary School ", the Office for the Inclusion of Roma AP Vojvodina, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Novi Sad - Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation, the City Administration for Social and Child Protection and the City Council for Social Protection and Family and Child Care. In addition to the representatives of the institutions, the meeting was attended by colleagues from EHO who implement various projects aimed at returnees, children and generally marginalized groups in the territory of Novi Sad.

The implementation of the project began on December 1, 2022, in order to provide support in mastering the teaching material for children of primary school age who come from returnee families (returnees based on the Readmission Agreement), through educational and inclusive activities, support from tutors with experience in working with children and peer tutors. According to the project, cooperation is planned with two primary schools from Novi Sad, namely: Elementary School "Dušan Radović" and Elementary School "Vuk Karadžić", whose classes are attended by children from Veliki Rit.

At the meeting, activities in cooperation with "Dušan Radović" Elementary School were presented, as well as work methodology, related to providing support to students from first to fourth grade, as well as to fifth, seventh and eighth grade students who primarily come from returnee families. At the meeting, the participants shared experiences and practices in the implementation of various activities that are intended primarily for students coming from the Roma population, for the purpose of harmonizing and coordinating the activities of all actors and supporting a larger number of children who attend this school, the challenges that the school itself faces in the implementation of educational and educational activities.

In the next phase, a work methodology will be created in cooperation with Elementary School "Vuk Karadžić" according to the needs of the school, that is, the needs of returnee students.

This project "Additional educational support for returnee children" is implemented by EHO as part of the project "Strengthening national and local systems to support the effective socio-economic integration of returnees in the Western Balkans" funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
