EHO publication "In Someone Else's Shoes" presented
28. Jul 2023.
At the teachers' faculty in Subotica, we presented the publication "In Someone Else's shoes" in Hungarian, which is the result of several months of work as part of the project "We see it this way - New frameworks for conversations about migration". The publication is a collection of stories collected and written down by journalism students at Living Libraries, where migrants and refugees were living books.
“A book is the abode of life - joy, sadness, change, hope...
Every man can be a human book. The difference between the books of people who have a home and those living books whose authors have replaced the house with a path is that the latter books are written by their owner’s shoes. There is a pair of shoes behind every sentence from these living books. Those shoes are on the feet of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
When all of the migrant shoes one day would start talking by themselves, there would be an endless book, travelling around the globe and new lines are added every moment.
Until then, until the shoes of people in motion would actually speak and write their stories, the most powerful of all powerful stories, let us be their shoes!
The eyes of readers of this publication can see the stories told by people who attempted to put on the migrant's shoes and while in them, speak on behalf of their owners.
If such a thing is even possible, this publication is an honest attempt at such a thing.
Thank you to the refugees, migrants and asylum seekers for allowing us to be their talking shoes!” - Branislava Opranović
The project is implemented in partnership with the Faculty of Teachers in the Hungarian teaching language in Subotica, and in cooperation with IOM, with the support of Switzerland.
