World Friendship Day

03. Aug 2023.

The whole world celebrates World Friendship Day on July 30, since 1997. Having a good friend is the key to happiness in life. Just on their thorny and long journey, some managed to meet their friends and thus make life's adventure, difficult enough, easier. In the Reception Centers in Šid and Sombor, this day was marked through various activities and workshops, where the focus was on socializing those who stay in these camps. The workshops were organized by educators engaged in the project "Empowerment of refugee women and children".

Each of the participants emphasized their definition of friendship, which is togetherness, happiness, security, acceptance and many other sound concepts. Many of them stated that they made friends right in the camp, while some of them had friends left in the countries they had to leave. Everyone agreed that it is important to keep in touch with your friend and be there for him in both good and bad times. Separation and distance are no obstacles to true friendship.

On the occasion of Friendship Day, a book about friendship was presented to users currently staying in the center in Sombor, which was created as a result of workshop work with children who stayed in the Acceptance Center in Sombor, and which was authored by educator Dragana Drljević.

The project "Empowerment of Refugee Women and Children" is implemented by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization with the support of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) .
