Initiative "Little and big learn together"
12. Oct 2023.
The Center for the Development of the Roma Community "Amaro drom" from Smederevska Palanka organized 20 educational workshops with 35 children from foster families and children of Roma nationality as part of the initiative "Little and big learn together" which is supported by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization as part of the project "Strengthening Local Roma organizations".
In addition to additional support in learning, the children participated in the creation of the play "Classroom in the Romani language", which they performed as part of the celebration of the World Roma Day in Smederevska Palanka. Also, work with parents and guardians of children was constant and necessary, in order to motivate them to provide additional support to children and monitor their needs. As part of the initiative, a space for work has been arranged, where additional support for children and parents continues to be provided.
You can see more about this initiative in the "Citizen" series broadcast by Radio-Television of Serbia, which is dedicated to the life of national minorities in Serbia (in Serbian language).

"Strengthening Local Roma organizations" is a project of the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization that aims to empower Roma Citizens' Associations to launch local initiatives that contribute to improving the position of the Roma community at the local level through the implementation of small local projects.
The project is financially supported by the Hoffnung für Osteuropa (Hope for Eastern Europe) program and Diakonie Württemberg from Germany.
Selected local initiatives are:
1. "It's not difficult to be an IN" conducted by the Herz Roma Association from Lebane,
2. "Center for Roma Integration" implemented by the Humanitarian Association Association of Roma Intellectuals from Prekodolca,
3. "The initiative small and big learn together" implemented by the Center for the Development of the Roma Community "Amaro drom" from Smederevska Palanka,
4. "Promotion of dual education" implemented by the Women's Association "Educational Center of Young Hopes",
5. “Only through education we can positively change ourselves and the environment" implemented by the Humanitarian Association "Čarain" from Tovariševo, and
6. "Support to socially vulnerable participants of the final grades" implemented by the Humanitarian Association “Đina” from Bačko Gradište.
Supporting Roma children in education is crucial for their success and integration into society. By providing support through mentoring programs, financial assistance and educational resources, they are enabled to overcome obstacles and join the education system.
