I choose the education
19. Oct 2023.
In the small Vojvodina town of Bačko Gradište, the Humanitarian Association "Đina" decided to make a big difference in the lives of children from socially vulnerable groups. What started as a plan for educational workshops for 15 children turned into an inspiring endeavor that included as many as 50 children, supporting them in their learning and opening the door to a more certain future.
From April to July, the Association with a dedicated team of volunteers provided the children with valuable support in learning. The main goal was to help them master school material more easily, develop work habits and, most importantly, awaken interest in continuing their education in high school.
During these workshops, the children not only mastered the material from school books, but were also presented with the benefits of education and acquiring skills. They also learned about lifelong learning methods, which are key to improving their position and getting out of poverty.
This local initiative supported Roma and other marginalized students in the education system and their fuller social inclusion, by organizing various activities aimed at improving their success at school, both towards the end of the school year and for a more successful start of the new school year.
But the Humanitarian Association "Đina" did not forget the parents either. They organized motivational and educational workshops for them, with the aim of continuously supporting their children during schooling. Learning together and growing together - this was the basic message that enriched the community and created bonds between parents and students.
This undertaking and initiative "Support in learning to a more certain future" is not only a bright spot in Bačko Gradište, but also an example of how commitment, support and education can change lives and open new opportunities for young people. He successfully enrolled his three children in high school.
This initiative is part of the project of the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization "Strengthening of local Roma organizations" supported by Diakonie Württemberg (DWW- Diakonisches Werk Württemberg) from Germany.
"Strengthening of local Roma organizations" aims to empower Roma citizens' associations to launch local initiatives that contribute to improving the position of the Roma community at the local level through the implementation of small local projects. Small local projects are related to solving the problems of education of marginalized children at the level of their local communities. The target group is people from marginalized groups, Roma children, children from foster families and their parents/guardians. The implementation of project activities took place on the territory of the following municipalities: Surdulica, Lebane, Smederevska Palanka, Bačka Palanka (village Tovariševo), Novi Sad, Bečej (village Bačko Gradište).
