It is not dufficult to be "IN"

23. Oct 2023.

In a world where being "IN" is often associated with trends and social networks, there is an Association that has shown that being "IN" can also mean being an inspiration and advancing in education. The Roma Herc Association from Lebane decided to dedicate itself to elementary school students who attend classes irregularly, providing them with support and encouragement to stay in school and create opportunities for them to continue their education.

In the previous period, the association tried to achieve an important goal related to the reduction of students' irregular attendance at school and to reduce the dropout rate from compulsory education through educational workshops for students and workshops on raising parents' awareness of the importance of their children's education.

During the duration of the project, 16 individual self-assessments were written in order to better understand the needs, limitations and reasons for irregular attendance of each student. These analyzes are not just documents; they were the key to providing the right support and guiding each child towards their educational success.

One of the significant initiatives was support in the form of the purchase of school materials for 32 students of Roma nationality. This was a concrete step towards creating equal conditions for all students.

The Herc Roma Association from Lebane has shown that being "IN" can also mean being inclusive and educated.

This initiative is part of the project of the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization "Strengthening of local Roma organizations" supported by Diakonie Württemberg (DWW- Diakonisches Werk Württemberg) from Germany.

"Strengthening of local Roma organizations" aims to empower Roma citizens' associations to launch local initiatives that contribute to improving the position of the Roma community at the local level through the implementation of small local projects. Small local projects are related to solving the problems of education of marginalized children at the level of their local communities. The target group is people from marginalized groups, Roma children, children from foster families and their parents/guardians. The implementation of project activities took place on the territory of the following municipalities: Surdulica, Lebane, Smederevska Palanka, Bačka Palanka (village Tovariševo), Novi Sad, Bečej (village Bačko Gradište).
