A case of EHO support toward a hairdressing salon
01. Dec 2023.
"Hairdressing salon, owner Buba Đurkić" - there are great chances that this title would be written on the door of a beautifully decorated and equipped hairdressing salon in Gospođinci (Serbia) in the near future, and it will make Buba and her parents proud.
Buba Đurkić is a hardworking girl who had a clear vision of what she wanted in life and consistently followed that path, with the support and help of the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization.
She enrolled in the Hairdressers' education program of the "Pavle Savić" Secondary technical school i Novi Sad (Serbia) which is part of the national Dual Education System. Since last year, that school has been included in the EHO project "Education and economic empowerment of marginalized groups".
Buba was one of 20 children from that school that EHO monitored during the school year, helped with school supplies, and provided individual mentoring support. The children participated in various workshops, which helped them get the best possible grades and successfully complete the class.
This year, a group of students who successfully graduated from high school in June were involved in business plan writing training and applied for a grant for business beginners. At the end of the two-stage selection process, EHO chose Buba as the best, which gave her a year of practice in a hairdressing salon in Novi Sad, tools and equipment for hairdressing.
In this way, EHO contributes to making quality education available to every child. Improving knowledge through training, providing tools and equipment for work, continuous consulting support, contributes to the improvement of working conditions and rights of children from marginalized groups. By connecting and coordinating education and economic empowerment, we achieve better results in improving the socio-economic status of people from marginalized groups.
Schooling in the dual education system would be one of proper ways to ensure a new, completely different life in the future for girls and boys, and their families.
