"Forum of Roma Poetry and Music"

27. Dec 2023.

On December 21, the "Forum of Roma Poetry and Music" was held in the Petar Dobrović Art Gallery in Belgrade. The forum was organized within the project "Social inclusion for a dignified life of Roma and other vulnerable persons 2023-2026" implemented by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization, in partnership with the Office for Roma Inclusion of AP Vojvodina. During the Forum, the wealth of Roma culture, art and tradition was presented. The written word and literature play a key role in shaping society, transmitting ideas, values and experience through time.

Branko Đurić, editor of the Roma newsroom at Radio Television Serbia, and Igor Jovanović, a human rights activist, presented literature and the tradition of writing and speaking among Roma, who said that writing stories and speaking are key to preserving the oral heritage, transmitting stories, songs and wisdom through generations. They agreed that this part of culture was passed down from generation to generation and served as a means of preserving identity, leaving an indelible mark on the global cultural landscape.

In the part of the program dedicated to Roma poetry, the verses of Roma poets Rajko Đurić, Jovan Nikolić, Slobodan Lala Berberski and Miroslav Mihajlović were spoken by Aleksandra Milojković Novikova and Una Beriša, accompanied by the musical trio "Mućkalica". The goal of this event is the promotion of Roma poetry and music as a contribution to the prevention and fight against discrimination against Roma in Serbia.

The implementation of the project is supported by HEKS/EPER, Switzerland.
