A workshop in Šid on the occasion of the International Mother Tongue Day

22. Feb 2024.

On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, celebrated on February 21, EHO educators Dragana Drljević, Silvija Kosanić and Andrijana Ribar, supported by the Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of Serbia (KIRS) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), organized an educational creative workshop in the Šid Reception Center.

In the educational part, users learned names of colors and numbers in the Serbian language, but also to present numbers up to 10 and colors in their native language - Arabic and Farsi. The second focus was on the basic concepts of establishing communication in both Serbian and Arabic languages.

In the creative part, the users sketched/painted their favorite subject, writing the name of the subject in their native language, and our educators indicated the Serbian pronunciation and the name of the subject.

At the end of the workshop, small Arabic-Serbian dictionaries were distributed to the users, aiming to make facilitate their stay and finding their way around in Serbia.

The project "Empowerment of refugee women and children" is implemented by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization with the support of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA).
