International day of children involved in living and working on the street

12. Apr 2024.

Every year, on April 12, the world celebrates the International Day of Children Involved in Living and Working on the Street. This day provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the reality of children growing up and working on the streets around the world. While many of us go about our daily lives, these children face challenges and dangers that most of us could never imagine.

Children who live and work on the street are often exposed to poverty, abuse, exploitation and marginalization. Without access to basic human needs such as food, shelter and education, these children struggle to survive and realize their dreams. Many of them face violence and crime on a daily basis, without support and protection.

The International Day of Children Involved in Living and Working on the Street invites us to recognize their rights and engage in the fight to improve their living conditions. These children deserve love, support and the opportunity to reach their full potential. This requires a systemic change in the way society treats the most vulnerable members, as well as investment in programs and resources that give them a chance for a better future.

The activities of the project are designed and implemented with the aim of providing children with support, an alternative, a different way of growing up, but also to reduce the number of those who perceive the street as the main factor of identification.

Animators entertained the children at the "Veljko Petrović" Elementary School in Begeč with various activities and games.

As we celebrate the International Day of Children Involved in Living and Working on the Street, we must not forget that they are our children, our responsibility. Let this be a reminder that we all deserve a fairer, safer and more compassionate society where every child has the opportunity to have a childhood.

The project "Field work with children involved in life and/or work on the street" has been supported by H. Stepic CEE Charity since 2009.
