EHO and health care of young migrants

Representatives of EHO (coordinator of the project "Empowerment of refugee women and children" and field associates engaged in reception centers Šid and Bujanovac) participated in workshops aimed at improving the prevention of psychoactive substances and the application of hygienic-epidemiological measures in Serbian centers for migrant reception and asylum seekers. The workshop was organized by the Institute for Public Health of Serbia "Dr. Milan Jovanovic Batut" within the project "Care for people on the move: Project to improve the health of young asylum seekers and migrants"  implemented with the support of UNICEF and KIRS.

The workshop was held on several occasions during May 2024 - in the reception center Šid, in the building of the Institute for Public Health in Belgrade and the center for asylum seekers in Vranje.

The workshop was attended by KIRS employees, health workers and associates from health centers, representatives of public health institutes/institutes, including representatives of other civil society organizations that work in migrant accommodation centers together with EHO activists.

The workshops took place according to the agenda:
• Results of the Research on the use of psychoactive substances among young migrants conducted by the Institute for Mental Health (available on the Unicef ​​website).
• Guidelines for psychoactive substance prevention among asylum seekers and migrants.
• Procedures for dealing with young people under the influence of psychoactive substances in transit/reception centers.
• Guidelines for the implementation of hygienic-epidemiological measures in migrant centers with a special focus on infectious diseases of greater epidemiological importance.
The exchange of experiences and discussions proved to be very useful for improving the health care of the target population.
