June 20, International Refugee Day, celebrated in the Šid Reception Center

19. Jun 2024.

International Refugee Day is celebrated every year on June 20 to raise awareness of the challenges facing refugees around the world, and highlight support, compassion, protection and the basic needs of life.

On this occasion, EHO employees athe Reception Ceter Šid- station held a creative workshop in cooperation with the Comissariat for refugess and migration of the Republic of Serbia, Caritas and the local office of the Center for social work. Together with the children, they enriched the appearance of the hall of the building with a mural. Each of them gave their personal mark and contribution to the mural using paints and brushes in a pleasant atmosphere. This activity is aimedto to encourage creativity, imagination, socializing and cohesion.

We also managed to organize a sports event that brought together refugee children and local young football players, in cooperation with the FC "Jednota" Šid and Commissariat for Refugees again. The event was held in Šid, where 11 unaccompanied minors, 6 of them from Egypt, 2 from Syria and 3 from Afghanistan, played football matches against children who train at FC "Jednota" Šid.

This event not only promoted physical activity among young people, but also emphasized the importance of sports as a means of making new friends and integrating refugee children with the local community. The participation of refugee children in sports activities not only provided an opportunity for recreational sports, but also fostered mutual understanding and solidarity among young people of different cultural backgrounds.

The match ended with a score of 7:3 in favor of the team from Šid, but it is important to emphasize that sportsmanship, fair play and mutual respect were in the foreground. The atmosphere during the matches was filled with enthusiasm and togetherness, while the young players showed exceptional sportsmanship and human maturity.
