21. Aug 2024.

Within the project "Social inclusion for a dignified life of Roma and other vulnerable persons in the Republic of Serbia 2023-2026", contracts were signed on the awarding of grants for intercultural school projects for 10 elementary schools and one secondary school in the premises of the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization in December 2023. The implementation of school projects lasted from January to June 2024. On that occasion, 11 schools had the opportunity to contribute to the construction of intercultural education and the promotion of social inclusion of children and youth in the education system by organizing activities, workshops and initiatives, both in their schools and at the local level.

Technical school "Nikola Tesla" from Velika Plana  with the project "Hand of friendship - youth as promoters of non-discrimination and tolerance" focused on increasing the awareness of young people about the importance of promoting and protecting human rights and tolerance. The project included the activities of designing the visual identity of the campaign - printing of educational and promotional materials, an information stand, public actions, a forum theater, a forum, numerous workshops and a study visit.

The project promotes peace, tolerance and non-violence, as well as positive values among young people. The idea is for young people to support the local environment and the school, to become and remain a school without violence and discrimination, i.e. safe and stimulating environment for children and young people.

26 students completed training on forum-theatre techniques on the topic of discrimination. On the occasion of April 8 - World Roma Day, they performed a performance on the forum in the city library, in front of students, teachers and citizens. Through 25 workshops, led by 48 trained peer educators, 320 school students raised awareness of tolerance and respect for diversity. This process helped them to recognize discrimination and understand the need for positive action by the wider social community towards the Roma population and other vulnerable groups.

The project ended with the "Friendship Caravan" activity, where the participants visited the Technical School in Despotovac , the Manasija Monastery and the Natural History Museum in Svilajnac .

The project "Social inclusion for a dignified life of Roma and other vulnerable persons in the Republic of Serbia 2023-2026" is financed by HEKS EPER, Switzerland .
