"Vuk Karadžić" Elementary School in Kragujevac with great success implemented an intercultural project called "School - My Safe Place", supported by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization within the project "Social inclusion for a dignified life of Roma and other vulnerable people in the Republic of Serbia 2023-2026 ".
The goal of the project was to reduce pupil dropout from the education system and improve the school climate through peer support, strengthening the capacities of students, teachers and families.
Through art and fine art workshops, creative activities, musical performances, thematic quizzes, sports competitions and social games, community and family workshops, a rich and varied program was realized. The artistic and literary competition on the topic "Be cool and spin the wheel of diversity" attracted special attention.
On World Roma Day, April 8, an exhibition of pupils’ works was organized to mark the end of the competition. During the exhibition, the winners were announced, and their works delighted those present, highlighting the importance of accepting diversity and promoting tolerance. This event additionally contributed to education and changing attitudes about Roma culture and tradition.
The project successfully created a network of support and mutual respect and acceptance of diversity, thereby contributing to the improvement of the school environment and strengthening the community.
The project "Social inclusion for a dignified life of Roma and other vulnerable persons in the Republic of Serbia 2023-2026" is financed by HEKS EPER, Switzerland.
