Inclusion and understanding through people's experiences - "Living Library" of EHO in Elementary School "Vojvoda Putnik" in Ripanj
26. Nov 2024.
On November 22, 2024, Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization organized a Living Library at the Elementary School "Vojvoda Putnik" in Ripanj , which is a partner in the implementation of the project "Social inclusion for a dignified life of Roma and other vulnerable people in Serbia 2023-2026".
In this unique library, instead of classic books, the "books" are living people - representatives of different socially sensitive groups who face prejudices, stereotypes and numerous challenges in their everyday life.
The pupils of "Vojvoda Putnik" elementary school, their teachers, parents and pupils from two neeighboring elementary schools had the opportunity to "meet" ten inspiring people, that is, to "read" ten unique "books".
Choosing titles such as "Lead Soldier", "Unstoppable Paralympian", "1 in 10 Million", "How Love Saves the World", more than 100 readers had the opportunity to hear stories about obstacles, prejudices, but also how individuals find the strength to face life's challenges and overcome them. These stories point to the importance of motivation, support and togetherness, which are key to overcoming life's obstacles.
Through the Living Library, thiese school-children were given opportunities to gain new experiences in an interactive way, connect with people from different socially sensitive groups. In this way, pupils were enabled to continue building a community in which solidarity, mutual respect and equality among people are valued.
The living library is supported by the Office of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and is implemented by the team of the "Zdravko Gložanski" Elementary School from Bečej.
The project "Social inclusion for a dignified life of Roma and other vulnerable persons in the Republic of Serbia 2023-2026" is financed by HEKS EPER, Switzerland .
