"My way to your understanding" - two exhibitions of works by empowered refugee women and children
28. Nov 2024.
The aim of the exhibitions entitled "My path to your understanding" is to humanize the current social discourse about refugees and migrants - people who pass through our communities every day or temporarily reside in them.
The exhibitions present art works by women, children and unaccompanied minors, created during occupetional workshops and activities carried out in the reception centers in Bujanovac, Šid and Principovac in the period from 2022 until today, within our project "Empowerment of refugee women and children". These works provide an insight into their experiences, challenges, but also hopes for a better future. Also with these exhibitions, we want to honor the stay of people on the move while they are staying in the local community or passing through it:
- The physical exhibition of these art works took place on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, in the Small Hall of the "Vuk Karadžić" Cultural Center in Bujanovac, we organized it with the help of the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia. At the exhibition, there was a warm and immediate atmosphere due to the presence of our users from PC Bujanovac, representatives of the Commissariat for Refugees of the Republic, UNHCR, partner civil organizations with which we cooperate in providing humanitarian aid to this target group, and representatives of local self-government and local media. The appropriate Halal service contributed to the good atmosphere at the event and closer connection between the users and the local population. Local online media portal announced the event:(https://bujanovacke.co.rs/2024/11/25/izlozba-moj-put-do-tvog-razumevanja-u-sredu-u-bujanovcu/ ) and covered the event:( https://bujanovacke.co.rs/2024/11/27/moj-put-do-tvog-razumevanja-izlozba-radova-migranata-u-bujanovcu/ ) Both contents are in Serbian language.
- You may also attend the virtual exhibition of the same works, i.e. the digitized version of the same gallery at the link: https://journey2you.ehons.org . This virtual exhibition also contains selected testimonies of users who have been involved in the creation of works of art and records their hopes and dreams for a better future.
Both exhibitions are organized by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization from Novi Sad with the support of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America ( ELCA ).
