EHO organized a training "Working with children in a street situation"

10. Jan 2025.

For our volunteers engaged in the project "Support for children at risk of being involved in life and/or work on the streets", implemented by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization with the support of the H.Stepic CEE Foundation from Vienna, a training entitled "Working with children in a street situation" was organized. The training was led by Dragana Vučković and Lazar Milošević, representatives of the Center for Youth Integration from Belgrade, who have many years of experience in working with children in a street situation.

The goal of the training was for new volunteers to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure quality support for our beneficiaries.

During the six-hour training, volunteers learned about the specifics of working with children in street situations, building trust, effective communication, and strategies for engaging children in educational activities. They also gained knowledge about ways to connect beneficiaries with relevant services and institutions. Through interactive workshops, practical examples, and case studies, participants actively participated in discussions and exchange of experiences.

Special emphasis was placed on the importance of education as a key factor in overcoming transgenerational poverty and integrating children into society. Legal frameworks and recommendations for working with this vulnerable group were also presented, including General Comment No. 21 on children in street situations of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.

Continuous improvement of knowledge and skills is of utmost importance for quality support to children. During the training, further cooperation with the Center for Youth Integration was agreed upon in the form of organizing visits and possible education for the needs of project activities.

This training represents another step towards improving EHO's work in providing assistance to children in street situations, with the aim of their successful integration into the education system and society.
