The Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization, in cooperation with the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, organized a educational and recreational visit for beneficiaries of the Vranje Asylum Center to the "Mišić" zoo in the village of Dulan, near Vranje, on January 26, 2025, followed by a walk through Vranjska Banja.

During the tour of the zoo, the participants had the opportunity to meet different species of animals, learn more about their natural habitats and feeding habits, but also to enjoy the beautiful ambiance of the zoo and the restaurant within it. They were most impressed by the lions and tigers, while the children were particularly enthusiastic about the horses. After the tour, there was a joint lunch break in a restaurant overlooking the zoo and the panorama of Vranje.

After visiting the zoo, the participants headed to Vranjska Banja, known for its healing thermal springs, the hottest in Europe (94°C – 110°C). The participants learned more about the healing properties of these waters and their historical significance, including the story of King Petar I Karađorđević, who was treated at this spa before he was caught by the news of the outbreak of World War I. The visit also included a tour of the Church of the Holy Prophet Elijah, while the youngest enjoyed playing on the children's playground along the Banjštica River.

The excursion brought together 46 participants, who enthusiastically exchanged impressions and expressed their desire for new similar activities.

This activity is part of the project "Empowering Refugees in Serbia", funded by the United Methodist Committee on Relief of Global Ministries (UMCOR). The project provides support to refugees and asylum seekers in Serbia, empowering them through education, vocational training, psychosocial support, integration and cultural activities.
