The "Roma Culture Day" held in Novi Bečej

26. Feb 2025.

The event entitled "Roma Culture Day" was successfully held in the Novi Bečej Municipality Cultural Center on February 21, 2025, which brought together numerous visitors and admirers of the Roma tradition. The event was implemented by the Novi Bečej Roma Association as part of the "Coexistence in Diversity" project, supported by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization through the "Strengthening Local Roma Organizations" program, funded by HfO (Hope for Eastern Europe) and Diakonie Württemberg from Germany.

The goal of the event was to present the rich cultural heritage of Roma in the municipality of Novi Bečej, as well as to empower and integrate Roma women into local cultural events.

One of the central parts of the program was the screening of the documentary film "Cosmos Roma: Both black and white have red blood" (Vi kalen vi parnen si le lolo rat) produced by Radio-Television Vojvodina and the Cluster of Creative Industries of Vojvodina, directed by Bojan Dakić. The film explores the topic of mixed marriages in the Roma community, shedding light on the story of Božidar and Suzana, a couple who broke taboos in the 1980s and fought for their love despite traditional norms.

In addition to the film screening, visitors had the opportunity to view an exhibition of drawings created during workshops with Roma children, and see four traditional Roma costumes in person, which attracted great attention from those present.

The event was marked by culture, art and togetherness, confirming the importance of preserving and promoting Roma heritage in the local community.
