11. Apr 2025.
The Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization, in cooperation with the City Municipality of Zvezdara, organized a ceremonial celebration of International Roma Day in Belgrade on April 10. The event was held at the Vuk Theater with the aim of promoting Roma culture, art and togetherness, as well as highlighting the importance of equality and social inclusion.
The central part of the program was the monodrama Sama performed by Aleksandra Milojković Novikova, which emotionally depicted the everyday challenges faced by members of the Roma community, especially Roma women. The performance was attended by representatives of local institutions, the Roma community and the media, and during the speeches of the officials, the need for greater social engagement and stronger institutional support for the Roma population was emphasized.
The President of the City Municipality of Zvezdara Mihailo Dosković, the Deputy President of the Belgrade City Assembly Igor Jovanović and the Advisor for National Minorities Siniša Marinković expressed their support for inclusive policies and continued cooperation with organizations working to improve the position of the Roma.
This initiative highlights the importance of art as a means of social change and contributes to strengthening the visibility and dignity of the Roma community. The project is funded by the Swiss organization HEKS/EPER, and is implemented within the project Social Inclusion for a Dignified Life of Roma and Other Vulnerable Groups in Serbia 2023–2026.
