Tolerance is learned - together, from a young age

30. May 2025.

Another workshop was held at the "Karađorđe" Elementary School in Velika Plana as part of the project "Social Inclusion for a Dignified Life of Roma and Other Vulnerable Persons in Serbia 2023-2026", implemented by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization with the support of the Swiss organization HEKS/EPER - this time on a topic that affects us all: tolerance.

The participants in this workshop are girls from two classes, who are members of the Girls' Club. Our Girls' Clubs are certainly a place where people can talk, listen and learn without judgment. However, what made this meeting special was that boys also joined in. Together, we showed that when it comes to respect and understanding, no one should be left out. There were no "boys" and "girls" in the classroom - there were children who were learning to respect diversity, to listen to other opinions and to recognize other people's boundaries. These are steps towards a school where every child is equally important.

Tolerance is not just a word – it's a look that says "I see you", a hand that says "I'm here for you", and a space where everyone has the right to be who they are.

This is not just a workshop. This is an investment in a generation that knows that differences are not a threat, but an asset. And we know – this is where change starts!
