Children from Adice settlement learned how to recognize emotions and overcome stress

30. Jun 2025.

On Friday, June 27, 2025, an educational workshop entitled "My Ways to Overcome Stress" for children age 1st to 4th grade primary school was held at the premises of the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization. The workshop was designed and led by psychologist Bojana Tankosić, with the support of the EHO team. The workshop was attended by 11 children from the Adice settlement, and was organized as part of the project "Support to Children at Risk of Involved in Street Life and/or Work", which the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization is implementing with the support of the H.Stepic CEE Charity from Vienna/Austria. Through interactive and creative activities, the children learned how to recognize emotions in their bodies and what strategies they can use to overcome stress. During the workshop, in a template in the form of a drawing of a person, the children marked with colors those parts of the body in which they felt anger, sadness, worry or fear, which encouraged them to introspectively think and share their feelings. Then, together, they created a “Worry Box,” where children could write or draw what was worrying them—and thus symbolically leave that worry behind. The workshop ended with a guided fantasy exercise, in which children, with their eyes closed, imagined a safe and pleasant place—like a beach, a forest, or their own secret corner. The workshop lasted 60 minutes and provided children with the opportunity to explore their feelings in a safe and supportive way, learn how to cope with stress, and strengthen their emotional skills. Such activities represent an important step toward strengthening children’s resilience and their inclusion in healthy educational and social flows—which is one of the main goals of the project within which the workshop is being implemented.
