EHO workshop on the occasion of International Literacy Day at the Reception Center Bujanovac

15. Sep 2025.
On the occasion of the 8th September, International Literacy Day, the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization (EHO) organized an educational workshop at the Bujanovac Reception Center with migrant women, children and unaccompanied minors of different ages. The aim of the activity was to highlight the importance of literacy as the foundation of education, personal development and successful integration into society. The workshop was held under the main message: "Literacy opens the door to knowledge, communication and new opportunities."
Through creative tasks, our users drew, wrote messages in their own languages and in Serbian, and shared thoughts about learning and the importance of knowledge. The workshop encouraged the participants to show what reading and writing mean to them through play and artistic expression, and the importance of language learning as a bridge to mutual understanding and connecting cultures was particularly emphasized.
The atmosphere was filled with socializing, exchange of ideas and mutual support. On a shared poster, the participants left drawings, symbols and messages that remind us that literacy is not just the art of writing, but also the key to freedom, equality and a better future.
We realized this activity thanks to the support of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) .
