09. Apr 2026.

The International Roma Day, 8th April, was marked this year with citizens, representatives of institutions and artists gathered in the "Branko Miljković" library in Zvezdara. This event was marked by the Zvezdara City Municipality in partnership with the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization.

The participants were addressed by the Assistant President of the Zvezdara Civic Organization Saša Avramović, Deputy President of the Belgrade City Assembly Igor Jovanović, Advisor for National Minority Issues of the Zvezdara Civic Organization Siniša Marinković and Project Coordinator of the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization Slađana Jovanović. The speakers expressed their support for inclusive policies and continued cooperation with institutions and organizations working to improve the position of the Roma.

This important day for the Roma community was marked by the promotion of the book "Anthology of Roma Poetry", which collects selected poems by important Roma writers, a work worthy of attention for poetry lovers, which, as an added value, contains poems in the Romani language with translations into Serbian. The poems included in the “Anthology of Roma Poetry” are full of emotions, folklore and joy, and the International Roma Day in Zvezdara this year, as in previous years, was marked by a cultural event.

This initiative emphasizes the importance of art as a means of social change and contributes to strengthening the visibility and dignity of the Roma community and is supported through the project Social Inclusion for a Dignified Life of Roma and Other Vulnerable Groups in Serbia 2023–2026, funded by the Swiss organization HEKS/EPER and implemented by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization in partnership with seven local governments in Serbia.
