Three Important Dates in Bujanovac: Health, Books, and Dance in Support of Refugees

06. May 2026.

At the Reception Center in Bujanovac, April was a month dedicated to well-being and cultural exchange. Through the project “Inclusive Support for Refugees in Southern Serbia,” and with the support of the donor UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief of Global Ministries), we marked three international days that served as opportunities for learning and togetherness.
April 7 – World Health Day
Instead of presenting dry facts, we organized an educational workshop on physical and mental well-being. In the specific conditions of collective accommodation, we discussed personal hygiene and healthy nutrition with participants, as well as self-help techniques for coping with stress and maintaining mental vitality.
April 23 – World Book and Copyright Day
A creative literary workshop turned books into a bridge between cultures. Participants read excerpts in their native languages, with translations into Serbian and English. Conversations about favorite authors allowed beneficiaries to revive memories and present the richness of the traditions they come from.
April 29 – International Dance Day
We concluded April with dance. During a dynamic traditional dance workshop, participants exchanged dance steps from Morocco, Afghanistan, and Sudan. Once again, dance proved to be a universal language that relieves tension and connects people regardless of their background.
In addition to these events, regular activities were carried out throughout the month, including English and Serbian language classes, as well as art sessions such as making “Magic Umbrellas” and “Mini Flower Baskets,” which support both children and adults in everyday socialization.
