Sports activities and team spirit: Football brings young people together in RC Bujanovac

27. May 2026.

The project "Empowerment of Refugee Women, Children and Unaccompanied Minors" implemented by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization (EHO) at the Bujanovac Reception Center of the Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration (KIRS/SCRM) includes the organization and implementation of regular sports and recreational activities for the center's users.

During May, spring days were used to organize outdoor football matches, which brought together young people accommodated in the camp.

Sport has once again proven to be a universal language that transcends all borders, and the football field as a place where team spirit, fair play and new friendships are developed.

Playing sports together plays an invaluable role in preserving physical and mental health, reducing stress and providing a sense of normality in everyday life in the camp.

The cheerful faces and positive energy of our young athletes testify to how much these activities mean to them.

Supported by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA), our organization continues to provide structured and quality time for youth and adults in reception centers in southern Serbia, promoting healthy lifestyles, socialization, and humane support on their journey.
