On June 3, 2026, the project coordinator of the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization Borka Vrekić participated in a study visit to the organization Bräcke Diakoni, which was held in Stockholm and organized by Eurodiaconia.
The study visit was dedicated to the exchange of experiences and innovative practices in the field of the care for the elderly and palliative care. During the program, participants learned about the model of cooperation between research and practice in the provision of the care for the elderly services, and about the artificial intelligence implementation in the daily work of social welfare organizations. A special attention was paid to Swedish solutions for AI assistants in the social services sector, which should contribute to improved quality of work and support for users.
Within the professional part of the program, presented were: the good practice examples in the field of preventive care for the elderly through the national quality system "Senior Alert", and as the concept "Improvement Power" (65), utilized to improve palliative care and the quality of services.
The participants visited Pilhamns Gårdar, a modern facility for accommodation and care for people with cognitive impairments and dementia in the municipality of Värmdö. During the visit, they learned about the organization of the facility, which combines professional care with a safe family-like environment for users.
The study visit provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences among Eurodiaconia members, and strengthen cooperation in the field of developing quality and sustainable care services for the elderly. The acquired knowledge and examples of good practice are important for the further development of the activities of the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization in the field of social protection and support for older citizens.
