Congratulations to all Roma - the World Roma Day
08. Apr 2020.
On the occasion of the International Roma Day, Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization celebrates inclusion, equality and non-discrimination of the Roma, especially today in conditions dictated by the Covid 19 pandemics.
Roma remain the most vulnerable group and they individually face difficult living conditions and discrimination in access to social welfare benefits, healthcare, employment and adequate housing both in Europe and Serbia - such statements are quoted in reports of relevant international organizations and i reports of independent entities of the Republic of Serbia.
A considerable number of Roma in Serbia still abide in inhumane living conditions generally deprived of ability to implement hygienic measures and adequate protection against Corona virus. Many of them are currently unable to realize their acivities in collection of secondary materials, thus exposed to additional margnalization and empoverishement.
In these circumstances it is neccessary to increase efforts to advance living of Roma in Serbia and secure their basic rights with support of all relevant institutions and civil society organizations that work inimplementation of inclusion policies for Roma in Serbia.
The International Roma Day is celebrated every year on 8th April, commemorating the establishment of the International Roma Union - the first large international Roma initiative, est. 1971 in London. International Roma Day is also a day of celebration of Roma cuture and a day to raise awareness on problems faced by the Roma worldwide.
We congratulate to all Roma - World Day of Roma, hoping that the next annual celebration would be celebrated in significantly better circumstances with a greater index of Roma inclusion.
