Training for volunteers "How to notice discrimination"

03. Jun 2020.

Training on how to notice discrimination and stigma directed towards the Roma community in Serbia was held for volunteers of the "Mobile Kindergarten" and "Mobile School" who will provide active support to children and youth from the Roma community in the City of Šabac, on Monday, 01 June 2020 in the Center for Professional Development, and within the project "Strengthening the capacity of local and Roma communities in the city of Šabac for inclusive processes - LET'S GET INVOLVED (Key to Inclusion)".
The project is implemented by the City of Šabac, the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization from Novi Sad and the College of Social Work from Belgrade within the grant scheme of the program "EU Support to Roma Inclusion - Strengthening Local Communities for Roma Inclusion", funded by the European Union and implemented by the Standing Conference of Cities and Municipalities.
Topics covered in this training are: basic concepts of discrimination, types and ways of discrimination, social beliefs and social norms on perceptions and attitudes about Roma, recognition of discrimination and the legal framework for protection against discrimination.
The developed volunteer network will be included in the implementation of educational and informative activities of "Mobile Kindergarten" and "Mobile Schools".
The project contributes to strengthening and improving the social position of the Roma community in the City of Šabac and strengthens mechanisms for raising awareness of ways to effectively overcome discrimination against the Roma population, which results in reduced stigma, exclusion and positive impact on the wider community.
The next training, which is planned for strengthening the volunteer structure and their inclusion in the activities of the Mobile Kindergarten and Mobile School, will be realized on June 5, 2020 in Šabac.
