August 2 - the World Memorial Day of Remembrance of Roma victims of the Holocaust
02. Aug 2020.
To remind: "On the night between August 2 and 3, 1944, about 3,000 Roma men, women and children were killed in the gas chambers at the 'Gypsy Family Camp' in Auschwitz."
These victims are a symbolic part of the nearly 500,000 Roma killed in those unforgettable times of fascism. In memory of the innocent victims, the Roma people are commemorating Remembrance Day of the Roma victims of the Holocaust on August 2, together with the European Parliament and some international organizations.
The resolution of the European Parliament, adopted on 15 April 2015, officially declares the Day of Remembrance for Roma victims of the Holocaust.
From the end of World War II until the mid-1980s, there was hardly any discussion of the genocide against Roma in Europe. In the last 10 years, young Roma men and women across Europe have been increasingly talking about this event as a reminder of the suffering of the innocent. In these challenging times, when solidarity and respect should be the foundation of every society, let this event be a reminder to us of what the human mind can do.
Watch and don't forget! Dikh ha na bistar!
