Soap making in Refugee center in Šid
20. Aug 2020.
At the suggestion of the Commissariat for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia, and as another preventive measure during the COVID-19 pandemic, our associates in the field at RC Šid organized a workshop on making hygienic soaps.
Number of participants was large and all women who are regular participants in the workshops attended. The process was very simple, as well as the existence of unlimited possibilities for creative expression, which resulted in a real collection of works of art. After dissolving the glycerin, they choose the color they want to add and the essential oil, in addition to alcohol for disinfection and sequins as desired. Then they pour the mixture into molds of different shapes and after the mixture hardens, the soap is ready for use.
The decorative packaging comes at the very end of the process, and the women expressed hope that the crisis with the virus will soon pass in order to have the opportunity for the local population to show their handicrafts at one of the manifestations.
The first distribution of soap is also planned, and we hope that we will make all the users of the reception center happy with these little gifts. We plan to continue the activity in the next period, since the interest is really great.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and aims to empower refugee women and children.
