Local Integration Associate – a service aimed at supporting returnee families

Services in the social protection system must be developed, especially when it comes to providing support aimed at families in crisis and families returned under the Readmission Agreement whose needs are multiple and complex, requiring a holistic approach, multidisciplinary cooperation of different systems within society and networking of the public and civil sector… This is a conclusion of the round table held at the Hotel Novi Sad, organized by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization, which brought together experts from the social protection system from the territory of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
The aim of the event was to exchange information and experiences in the field of implementation of specific field activities that are of interest to returnee families returned under the Readmission Agreement in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. Also, the goal was to introduce the professional public with the Guide for Integration of Returnees, which is the result of research and analysis of the current regulatory framework and mapping of services in 17 municipalities in the Republic of Serbia. The guide is intended for returnee families voluntarily or forcibly returned to Serbia upon ratification of the Readmission Agreement, and which has been translated and available in 4 languages (Romani, Albanian, German and Serbian).
The round table was attended by representatives of the Centers for Social Work from: Bač, Bački Petrovac , Plandište, Sečanj, Novi Sad, Šabac, Mali Iđoš, Subotica, Pećinci, Srbobran, Kovačica, Vrbas, including representatives of the Drop –In for Street Children of the City of Novi Sad
In the opening part of the expert meeting, the participants were addressed by Tatjana Grnčarski, director of the Provincial Institute for Social Protection, who presented the importance of the work of this institution and the importance of exchanging experiences and practices in the field of social protection. On behalf of the City Administration for Social and Child Protection of the City of Novi Sad, the gathered were greeted by the Deputy Mayor, Nenad Drašković, and he emphasized the importance of the existence of a program for improving social protection in Novi Sad. Anna Brtka Valent, Director of the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization, presented the 27-year work of EHO and the Association's efforts to improve the position of all those citizens who face various problems of social exclusion, poverty, discrimination through humanitarian and social work and cooperation in a wide network of associates, allies and friends.
Systemic theories in social work and supporting systems and services in the social protection system focused on returnee families and needs in the field, were presented by Dr. Sanja Đurđević, assistant professor at the College of Social Work in Belgrade.
Ružica Zećirović Srbljin, Deputy Director of the Center for Social Work of the City of Novi Sad, addresed approaches to empowering families and strengthening the potential of all family members and spoke about the importance of connecting families with formal and informal support networks.
The service of the local associate for integration in working with returnee families on the basis of the Readmission Agreement and the results of the "Integration Network" was presented by the project coordinator Milisav Milinković. The moderator of the round table was Bojana Tankosic, a specialist in children's rights and a master of psychology employed in the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization.
The round table is part of the "Network for Integration in Serbia" project, which is being implemented with the support of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), the Ministry of Baden-Württemberg and the Diakonie Württemberg from Stuttgart.
