November 20, World Children's Day
20. Nov 2020.
The year of 2020 is 66th annual occasion to celebrate the World Children's Day. This International Day was established to draw public attention on obligations of each society towards it’s own children, including other current problems that children face.
Our project "Empowerment of Refugee Women and Children" (supported by the ELCA), children accommodated in reception centers in Sombor and Šid have the opportunity to express their creativity through creative workshops. Educational activities in the reception center in Šid are carried out in cooperation with the elementary school "Sremski Front" to achieve monitoring of the curriculum and provide children with the opportunity for education. This project is in realization by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization since July 2020.
Also, the project "Field work with children at risk of being involved in life and / or work on the street" (supported by the H. Stepic CEE Charity) provides support through various activities to children and families in the City of Novi Sad who live in substandard settlements of Bangladesh, Veliki Rit and Adice. Through the direct work of volunteers in the field and within the extended stay of the elementary schools "Jožef Atila" and "Vuk Karadžić", in cooperation with the staff and educators of these schools, among other things, support is provided to children in doing homework. The Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization project is implemented since 2009.
These mentioned project activities are focused on the importance of direct and continuous work with children, therefore November 20 is here to remind us that the most important guidelines in this work are children's smiles and caring for each other.
