The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is celebrated since 1992, when the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution with a call to all countries to mark this day with the intention of raising awareness of the position of persons with disabilities in political, social, economic and cultural life, all with the aim of improving their position and creating conditions for equal participation of persons with disabilities in society.

People with disabilities, all over the world, face physical, social, economic and barriers in understanding people that exclude them from full participation in society as equal members. In that way, people with disabilities are additionally endangered. Therefore, the whole community and all citizens should make an extra effort and show greater understanding for people with disabilities and for the problems they face every day.

Our organization through various activities and projects helps people with disabilities in order to improve their quality of life.

By providing high quality home care and home help services, Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization strives to improve the quality of life of the elderly and sick, and also the people with disabilities, who have physical and mental difficulties that prevent them from living independently in their homes without regular help, hindred in activities of daily living, care and supervision, and with full or partial unavailabiti of a sufficient family support. The services in our project Home Care and Home Help is currently provided in the municipalities of Novi Sad, Stara Pazova, Bački Petrovac, Sečanj, Plandiste, Raška, Opovo and Gadžin Han.

Through the service Personal Companion of the Child, by providing appropriate individual practical support to a child with a disability, it is possible to get involved in regular schooling and community activities, in order to establish the highest possible level of independence. Our organization currently provides this service in the municipalities of Bački Petrovac and Raška.

The counseling, therapeutic and social educational services that we currently provide in the municipality of Raška are intended for people with disabilities. These services include psychological and special education clinical assessment and diagnostics, speech therapy, oligophrenological and psychological treatment of children and individual treatment-rehabilitation of children aged 0-18, parental counseling. Work on the basis of semi-intensive psychological, defectological and speech therapy treatment both in groups and individually depending on the needs and abilities of the users. For adults, the listed services include work training for work on machines for processing wood, metal, plastic, paper in canvas, and depending on the possibilities and needs of the user.

The day center for people with disabilities, located in the building of our organization in Novi Sad, aims to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities, the development of activism and independence, as well as the economic empowerment of people with disabilities. Various types of workshops are available within the work occupation program, and the most important is the EHO tailoring workshop, a project that is conceived as a precursor of a social enterprise and aims to employ people with disabilities and hard-to-employ categories of the population.
