April 12 - International Day of Children Involved in Life and / or Work on Streets
12. Apr 2021.
Since 2009, the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization has been implementing a project aimed at providing support to children and youth from socially disadvantaged families, with the support of the H. Stepic CEE Foundation. Through project activities, direct support is provided by volunteers, field associates and peer educators. In January 2021, the 11th project cycle began, with cooperation from the Shelter for Children and Youth Novi Sad and elementary schools "Jožef Atila", "Vuk Karadžić" from Novi Sad and "Veljko Petrović" from Begeč. In addition to the above, the work continued directly in the field within the 3 substandard settlements in Novi Sad (Bangladeš, Veliki Rit and part of the settlement of Adice). In the past period, volunteers engaged in the implementation of activities in educational institutions provided support to students from 1st to 4th grade. The field support, provided by field associates and peer educators, continued through informing children and young people at the risk of work on street about: all risks of spending time on the street, and also about the ban on child labor.
A tour of the settlement of Adice is planned for the coming period, so that families whose children attend the 1st grade in school-yearžs 2021/2022 may receive the necessary information related to enrollment. This activity is part of the model of support to families / children in the transition from preschool to school environment, all with the aim of directing children to the school environment.
