28 beneficiaries of assistance for the improvement of housing conditions signed donation contracts with the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organisation. The signing was organized in Sremska Mitrovica in MZ Sava on June 17, 2021, and in Ruma and Pećinci in the premises of local Roma associations, the "Roma Association of Ruma" and the "Roma Sun", on June 18, 2021. The contracts were signed by the beneficiaries who were approved for this support within the project intended for returnees from Germany and other Western European countries, "Assistance for a New Start". The project also partially supported non-returnees living in poor housing conditions. On that occasion, the users were informed about the mutual rights and obligations arising from the signed contract, as well as about further procedures related to the construction works itself. The delivery of construction materials necessary for the repair of houses will start soon. The assistance also includes the professional help of EHO engineers in the field during the construction works, as well as paid installation and ceramic works for the bathrooms. This year, the connections to the city electricity network will be paid for two houses, as well as the connection to the street sewerage network for one house, all in order to provide the minimum necessary living conditions for the families who live there.

This EHO project lasts until November 30, 2021.  The services provided are supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH under the Migration for Development (PME) Programme. The Programme is part of the global initiative “Returning to New Opportunities” of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
