Roma Community Development - Mišar, Phase II

The project is a continuation of the support to improved living conditions of the Roma community living in Mišar in Šabac. The part of Mišar settlement where 17 Roma families live is on the banks of the Sava River. Due to the floods that hit Serbia in 2014, this community has been severel affected by floods.

The weaving course for women from marginalized categories was aimed at empowering and socio-economical strengthening of women with a difficult access to employment - most often, unemployed women, single mothers and women with disabilities. Rehabilitation of houses based on the needs of socially vulnerable families affected by the 2014 floods in Serbia

On Thursday, 26 October 2017, the keys to 16 social apartments were handed over to 16 socially endangered families whose temporary accommodation, in the barracks of Kolubara in Veliki Crljeni, was destroyed in the floods in May 2014. On Thursday, 26 October 2017, the keys to 21 social apartments were handed over to 21 socially endangered families whose temporary accommodation in Obrenovac was destroyed in the floods in May 2014.

Post-flood rehabilitation through mobilization of the Roma community

During the project, four new houses were built and 13 houses were reconstructed. Bathrooms were built in all houses. Each family received a well with faucet, with a regular water supply. Also, all families received grants for self-employment, income generation. The families were given sheep, pigs, chickens, means of work - i.e., a chainsaw, a boat engine, etc.

Humanitarian aid for refugees and migrants in Serbia

Humanitarian assistance projects for refugees in Serbia in 2019 follow EHO projects started in 2015 and onwards aimed at the needs of refugees in transit through Serbia, especially those who have stayed for more than 10 months in refugee reception centers. Project activities in 2019 were concentrated primarily on reception centers in Vojvodina (Adasevci, Šid, Principovac, Sombor, Subotica, Kikinda).

Assistance to evicted Roma

In its three-year cycle, the project had the goal to contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic situation of Roma men and women in the Vojvodina through legal, economic and educational assistance and the improvement of housing conditions, and to support the realization of their human rights.

Safe corner for children in Reception Center Subotica

During their sojourn toward Western Europe, many families with children were stuck in temporary residence in one of the reception and transit centers in through the Republic of Serbia, from which they were supposed to continue across border crossings with our neighboring countries.

Assisted Integration of Women and Children

The project is being implemented by the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization since May 2019 within the reception centers in Subotica and Sombor. The target group is women and children who stay in the two centers due to the migrant crisis.
